Snow shovel vs. a snow pusher

During the winter it is important to prepare for the worst weather conditions, to help to avoid accidents and injuries, and choosing the best tool for the job is a vital step. Understanding the difference between certain tools can help you to decide which is the most appropriate for you. So today, we are looking at how snow shovels differ from snow pushers and in which scenarios they work best.

The difference

So to start the main difference is that snow shovels have a rectangular style blade designed to scoop the snow so that it can be lifted and moved to another area. A snow pusher on the other-hand is designed to push the snow to clear a pathway, drive or other area. As such, they have a more narrowly curved blade, tend to be wider than a snow shovel and are not suited to lifting large amounts of snow.

The benefits of a snow pusher

The most obvious benefit of using a snow pusher is that you can remove snow without the need for lifting it, which can be an arduous and labour intensive task. Essentially, they work in the same way as a snow plough does, by pushing the snow away from the area that needs to be cleared and creating larger piles of snow in an area it can be left in. As no lifting motion is needed, they tend to be most the most suitable choice to address larger snowfalls, heavier packed snow or wet snow.

The benefits of a snow shovel

Snow shovels are able to navigate uneven surfaces more easily and also offer greater control so that it is easier to manoeuvre around any objects that might be in the way. Some come with a secondary handle, such as our heavy duty snow shovel and some have a secondary grip placed on the shaft, such as our multi-function snow shovel, these are both designed ergonomically to help with the lifting process. This allows you to move a greater amount of snow in one go with more ease and less strain on the body.
